Kia Forum on August 10, 2023:
Greta Van Fleet's Starcatcher World Tour is well on its way across North America and the legendary Kia Forum played host to a spectacle of a performance the found the band crossing a threshold into rock stardom. Last time the band hit the Greater Los Angeles area, frontman Josh Kiszka and co. mesmerized the Greek Theatre and now, Greta Van Fleet up the ante on stage production, electrifying glamor, and most importantly, musicianship. The band's third and most expansive album yet, Starcatcher, just saw its release via Lava and Republic Records, and was brought to life with the utmost grandeur.
As lights dimmed and crowds inched closer to the center catwalk, a packed Forum erupted into great cheer as the Kiszka brothers and Danny Wagner walked onto the stage. The rocking opener, The Falling Sky, kicked us off and vibrant riffs began to fly.
Towering light panels shined down on the elegance of the four piece while pyro rose to the occasion, adding a much welcome visual allure to an otherwise thrilling showcase that harkened back to rock 'n' roll's yesteryear, Adorned in glistening face paint, Josh commanded the stage with a soulful vocal range signature to his persona, further elevating the excitement present within the venue.
Wagner's upbeat tempos were lively and brothers Jake and Sam did right by their short yet celebrated discography, ripping through and breathing new life into the live rendition of staples such as Meeting the Master, Heat Above, Light My Love, Anthem, and more from the band's three full-length recordings. No matter where you stand on the Greta Van Fleet timeline, there was much in the realm of setlist variation, showcasing the band's meteoric rise throughout the last several years.
There was no shortage of heart and flare radiating from the Forum stage this evening, reflecting the investment that Greta Van Fleet place on their ever-growing craft of soaring performances. Starcatcher's magic is captured beautifully by a magnificent production fitting for the trailblazing act on stage. From the buzzing opening moments to the bittersweet closing notes of Farewell for Now, Greta Van Fleet elevate themselves to a new standard worth basking in.
