The genre-defining Cynic have just concluded a co-headlining tour run alongside Atheist with both bands celebrating seminal records respectively: Focus & Unquestionable Presence (1991). As the band mesmerized across North America, they paid respects to the late great pivotal musicians, Sean Reinert and Sean Malone, of Cynic and more. Rightfully so, the evening's festivities were full of heartfelt camaraderie and of course, masterful showmanship. The Teragram Ballroom tour stop in Los Angeles was simply a communal gathering to remember.

The soul radiating from frontman Paul Masvidal was strongly felt as eyes closed and fingers flew across the fretboard, delivering precision and fury from one track to another of the beast that is Focus. An enthusiastic LA crowd were laser focused on the display, staring with joy at the experience unfolding before them. Progressive death metal history was showcased on a high mark, as it was earlier this year in North Hollywood under the Uroboric Forms moniker. Standout tracks Celestial Voyage, Sentiment, The Eagle Nature, Uroboric Forms, and the celebrated Veil of Maya all flew high that night, making an illustrious return to stages that it was meant for. Reinert and Malone would have been proud of what transpired throughout the tour, but more specifically, the special night that was June 17, 2023. Enjoy a photo gallery of the occasion below.
