The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on April 13, 2024:
With vibrance at the heart of their performance, Dirty Loops shined bright amidst The Fonda Theatre with a setlist that spanned covers and signature staples from across their rich sonic palette. Sweden's own took over the venue as part of an ongoing North American Tour, their first in a decade, to allow for their expansive material to flourish in the live setting. We are among the keen many that were present for the rare and special occasion, and were able to capture energetic frontman Jonah Nilsson, bass extraordinaire Henrik Linder, and joyous drummer Aron Mellergård.
It all began with the wondrous Follow the Light — a thrill of a listen that is both accessible to a common wanderer and a spectacle to those with an eye (and ear) for shapeshifting instrumentation. Linder's bass prowess soared high as the infectious grooves reverberated throughout the venue, prompting an enthusiastic crowd reaction. Dirty Loops were in their element.
As funky as ever, the band's boundless body of work was passionate and notable in each member's face as the tracks continued from one to the next. Selections from across Loopified (2014) and Turbo (2020) spoke highly of the band's investment in their craft as well as a continued evolution that never ceases to settle, all the while covers of pop staples Thriller (Michael Jackson), Just Dance (Lady Gage), and more illustrated an accessible, dance ready flare to an otherwise masterclass of a night. Dirty Loops put on more than a showcase in talent, but one of heart that was ever so felt in their showmanship. Few dates remain, so head below for dates, tickets, and a photo gallery of the performance.
